More Than A Coach

MY APPROACH

Before anything else, you should know this:

I don't believe in just running people through workouts.
I don't believe in being on my phone during sessions (unless I am logging progress).
I don't believe in treating people like numbers.
I don't believe coaching should feel disconnected or transactional.

Coaching is personal.

Here is the deal, I am sure you have heard it all from every coach.  I could tell you about my degree, my certifications from the National Strength and Conditioning Association and National Academy of Sports Medicine, my decade long experience working with hundreds of members/clients, how I will guide you through nutrition, blah blah blah.  Any coach worth their salt can make the same claim.

BUT...

When you train with me, you're not just getting the run of the mill workouts and macros.  You are getting a coach who is present, attentive, and invested in why you are here in the first place.

MY STORY

Sweat (1)_edited.png

I got into coaching after an injury as an athlete in high school during wrestling season.  While I was sidelined, I started helping my teammates and realized I was just as invested in their progress as I was in my own. In fact, I was better at understanding techniques, coaching cues, and interpreting situations through the mind of coach, better than I did as an athlete.

That turned into a decade of coaching experience working with busy Moms and Dads, athletes (youth – D1), and tactical athletes (Marines, fire rescue, and law enforcement).

Over time, I started to notice a pattern.  It wasn't that people lacked effort and/or that they didn't care.  Most people were simply trying to follow systems that didn't fit their life or had coaching that didn't meet their needs.

Busy parents were trying to train like full-time athletes.

Athletes were training hard but were trying every fancy exercise they saw on social media.

Adults starting over again and again because nothing ever stuck.

That is when I stopped focusing only on workouts and started focusing on people.

How they live.  What they're balancing.  What actually matters to them.

What Type of Coach Am I?

I’m not a “run you into the ground” coach.

I’m not a burpee-for-the-sake-of-burpees, throw-everything-at-the-wall-and-see-what-sticks type either…unless it’s a medicine ball…then yes, let’s throw that sucker at the wall extra hard!

Don’t get me wrong, hard work matters, but it has to be the right work.  My job is to know what to do, how to do it, when to do it…and just as important: what not to do.

Training with me is…honestly, a little hard to explain…

Think golden retriever energy…with a bit of bark when you need it.  I am personable, technical, patient, and structured.  I have lost my voice yelling at a high school footballer pressing 465 lbs off their chest and I have patiently worked with a grandma trying to remain healthy in her old age.

In other words, I’ll push you when it is time to push and pull things back when your body (or life) needs it.  No ego, no guessing…just a clear path forward based on where you are and where you’re trying to go.

I have helped clients lose weight, helped athletes get D1 scholarships, helped athletes win championships, helped young athletes build their confidence through the weight room, helped mums with their bums and dads with their guns, helped Marines with their PFTs and CFTs, and helped gram gram get up off the couch with more ease and strength.

BUT…what I care about most isn’t just strength or weight loss.  It’s watching people start to carry themselves differently with more confidence and more self-respect.
